DIPHU, Oct 10: Karbi Anglong Primary Teachers Association (KAPTA) will seek explanation from 135 primary school teachers for not attending their schools. The teachers’ body is also likely to hand over the case to the appropriate authority for taking action against them.
This was decided in the 61st foundation day of the KAPTA celebrated at KAPTA office here on Thursday.

“Because of the 135 teachers not going to schools the whole teacher community is being blamed. We will ask those teachers reasons for negligence to their duty. KAPTA has decided to take action against them. We will also inform the matter to the higher authority to initiate appropriate against them,” KAPTA general secretary Probin Hanse told reporters here.
The KAPTA was formed on October 10, 1958 with 200 teachers. Now the number of primary teachers in the two hill districts is 2,600. The founder president and general secretary were Samuel Engti and Satya Deb Sharma respectively.
On the occasion, KAPTA president Langtuipi Ronghangpi hoisted the organisation’s flag.
The meeting also discussed various issues and problems faced by teachers and how better education. One decision taken was that KAPTA will ask the 135 teachers the reason for not going to school and inform higher authority.
KAPTA also expressed its gratitude to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang, district primary education officer (DPEO) Arun Teron and KAAC secretaries for release of salary to teachers.
The primary teachers in Karbi Anglong were on agitation for non-payment of their salaries due to technical problem in online payment. Five months salaries were released ahead of Durga puja.
Earlier, salaries for teachers were given through Langpi Dihangi Rural Bank (LDRB), but due to amalgamation of banks, LDRB had merged with Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB). KAPTA urged AGVB to facilitate the same.
