Karbi Customary King Ramsing Ronghang Dies At 72

DIPHU, May 10: Karbi traditional king Ramsing Ronghang passed away around 11 am on Wednesday at his residence in Moniram Ronghang village, Nok Terang which is about 6 km from Hamren, West Karbi Anglong after prolonged illness.

He was 75. He is survived by 6 children, 4 sons and two daughters.

Ronghang entered Ronghang Rongbong, the seat of Karbi traditional kings, to become the Karbi customary king in February 2017.

The president, Karbi Cultural Society, Chandro Sing Kro in his book on the accounts of Karbi traditional kings has mentioned Ramsing Ronghang as the 35th Karbi customary king.

Several prominent personalities have condoled the demise of Ramsing Ronghang.

The chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang in his Facebook post said, “I am saddened to hear of the passing away of His Highness Ramsing Ronghang. The demise of the guardian of Karbi tradition has left a void in the Karbi society.”

At Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) Central Committee office, Taralangso the KCS flag was lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect to the Karbi customary king.

President, KCS, Chandrasing Kro in his condolence message said, “We grieve for the untimely demise of a person like Ramsing Ronghang, who is a Karbi traditional king. His demise is a loss to the Karbi society.”

The mortal remains of late Ronghang will be cremated at Nok Terang village cremation ground on May 12.
