Kaushik Rai reviews development projects, inspects key infrastructure in Cachar

SILCHAR, June 27: Assam Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Housing and Urban Affairs and Cooperation, Kaushik Rai, on Saturday reviewed the progress of key development projects in Lakhipur Co-District and inspected major infrastructure works in Silchar, emphasising quality execution and timely completion of projects aimed at improving public services.

The minister chaired a review meeting at the Lakhipur Co-District Office with district officials and contractors to assess the implementation of projects undertaken by various departments.

The meeting was attended by Lakhipur Co-District Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Pathak, Cachar District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy and senior officials.

Reviewing works executed by the Public Works Department (Roads), Rai assessed the progress of projects under Asom Mala, Mukhyamantrir Unnoto Pakipath, Mukhyamantrir Pakipath, tea garden road schemes and other road connectivity initiatives.

He directed officials to maintain construction quality while ensuring timely completion.

The minister also reviewed Public Works Department (Buildings) projects, including the Integrated Co-District Commissioner’s Office at Lakhipur, a 100-bed district hospital, a mini stadium, school buildings and a law college.

He instructed the executing agencies to adhere to quality standards and avoid delays.

Officials of the Public Health Engineering Department briefed the minister on drinking water supply schemes, rural water distribution projects and sanitation initiatives.

Rai reviewed measures to ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water, particularly in rural areas.

The meeting also reviewed the functioning of the Power Department, with discussions focusing on uninterrupted electricity supply during the monsoon, strengthening rural electrification and addressing consumer grievances.

The Education Department presented updates on school infrastructure, construction of academic buildings, implementation of government education schemes and the integration of technology in classrooms.

The minister stressed the need to improve educational infrastructure and learning standards.

Officials of the Social Welfare Department highlighted the progress of Model Anganwadi Centres and early childhood education initiatives, while the Health Department reviewed measures to strengthen healthcare institutions and expand medical services in rural areas.

The minister also reviewed flood control, erosion protection and drainage improvement works undertaken by the Water Resources Department ahead of the monsoon.

The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department presented updates on livestock healthcare services, vaccination programmes, veterinary infrastructure and the proposed Multi-Care Veterinary Hospital.

Earlier in the day, Rai inspected the under-construction District Library in Silchar and directed engineers and contractors to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high construction standards.

He later visited the construction site of the new Silchar Circuit House and reviewed the progress of work in the presence of District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy and Public Works Department officials.

He instructed the executing agencies to ensure timely completion without compromising quality.

The minister also inspected the construction of the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office for Cachar in Silchar and directed officials to complete the project on schedule.

The new administrative complex is expected to improve coordination among government departments and enhance public service delivery.

Rai said the ongoing infrastructure projects across Cachar and Lakhipur would strengthen public facilities, improve connectivity, enhance administrative efficiency and expand access to essential services, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to creating durable public infrastructure for socio-economic development.
