DIPHU, May 5: The Karbi Students Association (KSA- Jemson Timung) condemned the statement of the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang saying that social organisations in Karbi Anglong are not interested in programmes where there is a financial benefit.

The publicity secretary of KSA- Jemson Timung, Moniram Teron said, “Yesterday, that is on May 4, our honourable CEM of KAAC while releasing a textbook in Diphu, made a controversial statement that organisations of Karbi Anglong, Karbi Students Association is running after money and has no interest in literary works. We the KSA condemn the statement for insulting the KSA.”

He further said, “We would tell the honourable CEM if he thinks that he is a strong leader of Karbi Anglong then he should be vocal enough to raise the pertinent issues of the district. Till now the honourable CEM of KAAC has been silent on the important matters of Karbi Anglong.”

KSA said that it opposes the “Give and Take Policy” of solving the border problem with the neighbouring state of Meghalaya. On development, KSA said the CEM has talked about development in Karbi Anglong but it is confined to only a 5-6 km radius of KAAC headquarters, Diphu. “The fruits of development should be taken to the rural areas. In education, Karbi Anglong is the most backward in Assam. Most of the schools in the rural area lack educational infrastructure. The CEM is a toothless tiger in front of the Prime Minister as he has failed to raise the issue of the Autonomous State, Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India,” the KSA alleged.
