DIPHU, July 14: To mark Karbi Students’ Day and the 66th Foundation Day of the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA-Inglongpho), the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the organisation held a voluntary blood donation camp at its Rongnihang office on Monday.
KSA President Bhudho Terang said that while the Foundation Day is officially observed on July 21, the blood donation initiative was launched in advance as part of this year’s celebrations. He noted that this was the first such initiative in the history of the Association, which has been active since its formation in 1959.
“This is the beginning of a new tradition,” Terang stated, adding that the KSA intends to make the blood donation camp an annual feature of its Foundation Day celebrations. He highlighted that the Association regularly receives requests for blood from patients in urgent need, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. “Donating blood can help save lives. Many poor patients cannot afford to buy blood, so this effort will go a long way in supporting them,” he said.
According to the organisers, over 30 KSA members donated blood during the camp. Terang said the Association plans to raise the number of donors to 50 or 60 next year to expand its humanitarian outreach.
The blood donation drive was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Konkan Nath, Additional Deputy Commissioner James Diamary, and medical personnel from Diphu Medical College and Hospital. Medical officers conducted the screening and collection process, ensuring that all donations were carried out safely.
The KSA’s effort was appreciated by local authorities, who said it reflected the organisation’s growing commitment not only to student issues but also to community welfare.
