NAGAON, July 22: The Nagaon Karbi Students’ Union staged a protest in front of the Nagaon Police Station on Tuesday, demanding capital punishment for Saddam Hussain, the prime accused in the alleged murder of a Karbi girl whose body was recovered in the Diphlu area near a Shiva temple on June 16.

In an official statement, the students’ body urged the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure justice in the case, which has sparked widespread outrage among the Karbi community.

The case initially caused confusion after the family of one Pinky Das, reported missing from her residence under Raha Police Station, claimed the recovered body to be hers.

However, police investigations revealed that Pinky Das was alive and the deceased was a young woman from Langking village in Karbi Anglong district.

The police later identified the victim as the younger daughter of Pranab Ingti, a resident of Langking village.
