Guwahati, Nov 16: Assam Cabinet on November 16 led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a series of significant decisions, encompassing areas such as community representation, education reforms, and land settlement.
These decisions underline the Cabinet’s commitment to inclusivity and socio-cultural sensitivity. A key decision is the State Government’s plan to submit a proposal to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, requesting the inclusion of ‘Biate’ as a distinct entry and the exclusion of ‘Biate, Biete’ from the existing list under ‘7.
Any Kuki Tribes including’ in the Schedule to the Constitution (ST) Order, 1950, as amended. The Chief Minister also announced the approval for the establishment of the Khasi-Jaintia Development Council, aimed at catering to the specific needs of the Khasi and Jaintia communities.
This initiative is expected to enhance community representation and promote development tailored to the unique needs of these communities.
The Cabinet has sanctioned the allocation of land to 3,576 indigenous, landless families in the districts of Morigaon, Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Goalpara, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Darrang, Tinsukia, and Dhemaji under the aegis of Mission Basundhara 2.0.
This action is in line with the government’s pledge to protect the welfare and livelihoods of indigenous communities. In a separate decision, the Cabinet has approved amendments to the Assam Secondary Education (Government Schools) Service Rules and the Assam Secondary Education (Provincialised Schools) Service Rules.
These amendments are designed to enhance the recruitment process for Graduate and Post Graduate Teachers. The objective is to maintain a balanced pupil-teacher ratio, provide effective academic support, and prevent any negative impact on academic activities in Provincialized/Government Schools.
