KVK and AAU organises 16th Scientific Advisory Committee Meet in Cachar

SILCHAR, Jan 6: The 16th Scientific Advisory Committee meeting was held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Cachar on Thursday.

In the meeting delegates from Assam Agricultural University (AAU) Jorhat, director of Extension Education, Dr. P.K. Pathak; director of Research (Agri.) Dr. A. Bhattacharya; ADC (Agril.) Cachar district Yuvaraj Borthakur and chief scientist (RARS-Karimganj) Dr. A.S.N. Zaman were present on the occasion.

The meeting programme started with an inaugural speech by Abdur Rahman, senior scientist and head, KVK – Cachar. In his speech Rahman welcomed all the delegates, subject matter specialists of KVK-Cachar, participants from various line departments, progressive farmers, NGO members and office staff of KVK-Cachar present in the meeting. He explained about the objectives of the meeting and urged the participants to give their valuable suggestions.

After his speech the delegates in the dais, the participants and progressive farmers were felicitated with ‘Phulam Gamosa’. Followed by Rahman speech, Dr. P.K. Pathak explained the purpose of the meeting, the work plan to be done by KVK in the next financial year and the results of the activities done in the current fiscal year.

Following Dr. Pathak’s speech Dr. A. Bhattacharya urged the participants, fellow SMS scientists, farmers and other members present in the meeting to identify and conserve the signature items present in Barak valley. He also urged to promote the items so as to get recognised and get Geographically Identified item from Barak Valley. The Annual Progress Report 2022-23 and Annual Action Plan for the year 2023-24 were present by Abdur Rahman, head of KVK, Cachar.

During this presentation the various activities that were done by KVK, Cachar were shown in the presentation and it was discussed thoroughly about the findings and results. After that, Annual Action Plan of KVK-Cachar was presented to the delegates and participants from line departments. Modifications, rectifications regarding the working plans were discussed. Also valuable suggestions from the members present in the meeting were taken into consideration. After the discussion of the action plan and progress report Y Borthakur expressed his speech on agriculture with special emphasis to be given on medicinal plants and its valuable uses. In the end of the meeting, the discussion on natural farming were done by director of Extension Education, with this he concluded the 16th SAC meeting.
