GOSSAIGAON, Nov 20:Â Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kokrajhar, successfully wrapped up a five-day training program at Assam Agricultural University, Telipara, in Gossaigaon, focusing on vocational training in commercial nursery raising and propagation techniques of major horticultural crops.
The training, which commenced on November 14th with the aim of providing technical skills on nursery raising and horticulture crop propagation to rural youth, concluded on November 18th. Thirty participants from rural areas in Kokrajhar district attended the training, which was conducted by Puja Basumatary, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture).
Dr. Sunil Kumar Paul, Senior Scientist and Head (i/c) of KVK Kokrajhar, inaugurated the session with a keynote address, offering a comprehensive demonstration on nursery production. He emphasized the economic potential of nursery production and its role in fostering self-employment.
The five-day program covered essential topics related to commercial nursery practices, including hands-on training on methods of sexual (seeds) and asexual/vegetative propagation in horticultural crops (cuttings, layering, grafting, budding). Puja Basumatary, the trainer, provided insights into propagation using specialized organs such as bulbs, corms, tubers, rhizomes, runners, suckers, and offsets.
Rabi Kanta Das, a progressive farmer and entrepreneur, interacted with the trainees, sharing his experiences and encouraging rural youth to consider commercial nursery raising for better livelihoods. The training concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
