SIVASAGAR, Nov 26: The legendary warrior and 17th-century Ahom army’s General, the Great Lachit Borphukon’s 400th Birth anniversary was celebrated in Mumbai Assam Bhawan on November 24. The event, organised jointly by Dynamic Enterprise, Cotton University, ‘Nabeen’ group, Tai Ahom Youth Forum’s Sreemoyee Mumbai group and Assam Bhawan management witnessed a host of cultural activities and felicitation programme. The chorus performed by a team of Mumbai Assamese ladies was followed by the welcome speech by Biswajit Gogoi. Flute play by Uttam das, violin recitals by Arun Phukan, poem recitation by Mousumi Das and patriotic songs by Sanjay Deshmukh mesmerised the audience. The general manager of IDBI Bank Priyaranjan, social activist of Gujarat Deepak Pandya and guest speaker Hemant Changmai graced the occasion and made inspiring speeches on the legendary Assamese naval Genaral.
A host of noted Assamese actors, writers and social activists, and artists Amrit Pritam Dutta, Golap Borah, Dr. Jyotirmoy Das, Shamya Prasad Handique, Binod Mudiyar, Dipak Kumar Das, Dayananda Mahanta, Chandrasekhar Sharma, Trinayan Handique and Master Ayushman were felicitated in the programme. The symbolic lighting of four hundred lamps and a skit played by NMIMS, students on ‘Lachit’ was the center of attraction. The program was anchored by Prof Suman Sharma and Bipul Kalita while Jayesh Kumar of Assam Bhawan offered a vote of thanks.
