JORHAT, May 7: A lawyer has been arrested by the police on charges of fraudulently producing an order in the name of the member of the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT), Jorhat, awarding compensation to an accident victim’s next of kin.
According to sources, Parthajyoti Gogoi of Mariani in the district has been arrested by the Jorhat police, who has registered under sections 120 B, 420, 468, and 471 of the IPC following an FIR lodged last week by Shantanu Khound, court administrative officer (Sheristadar) of the court of the Jorhat district and sessions judge. Khound alleged that Gogoi fraudulently made an order of paying Rs 10.29 lakh in the name of MACT member, who is also the district and sessions judge.
The FIR alleged that the accused forged the signature of the court administrative officer by showing that he was certifying the order of awarding compensation.
After the victim failed to get the compensation amount and the matter came to the notice of the court of the district and sessions judge, the complaint was lodged against the lawyer at the Jorhat Police Station.
It may be mentioned that the court order of judicial remand is yet to be passed till the filing of this report.
