BTC elections: CEM, Hagrama Mohilary file nomination papers

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 2: Several heavyweight candidates from different political parties, including Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member (CEM) and UPPL president Pramod Boro, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, and former BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary, filed their nomination papers for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections on Tuesday.

A total of 102 candidates from various political parties and independents filed nominations from 12 constituencies of Kokrajhar district on the last day of filing.

The elections to the 40-member BTC will be held on September 22.

UPPL president Pramod Boro filed the nomination of his party’s candidate from Dotma constituency.

Former BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary submitted his nomination before the Returning Officer at the District Election Office for Debargaon constituency, where he is contesting on a UPPL ticket against BPF president Hagrama Mohilary.

Mohilary, former BTC chief, also filed his papers for Debargaon constituency.

Speaking after filing his nomination, CEM Pramod Boro said the UPPL is contesting all 40 constituencies and expressed confidence of securing a majority.

He said the party is receiving support across communities, as the BTR government has been working for welfare and development.

He added that several welfare initiatives and schemes have been launched and effectively implemented, and expressed confidence that the UPPL is winning the trust of citizens in the Bodoland region.
