LGB Girls’ College, Tezpur to organise national seminar on ‘Srimanta Sankardeva: Language, Literature, Culture and Philosophy’

TEZPUR, Aug 9: A two-day national seminar titled “Srimanta Sankardeva: Language, Literature, Culture and Philosophy” will be held on August 23 and 24 at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Girls’ College, Tezpur.

The seminar is being organised in collaboration with the Tezpur branch of Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti.

The seminar will cover a wide range of sub-themes related to the life, works, and philosophy of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.

Key sub-themes include: life and works of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva; his philosophy; contemporary social life during his time; the Bhakti Movement and his role in it; Sankardeva’s plays; character analysis from his plays; the role of Sutradhara in Bhaona; poetic elements in Ankiya Naat; depiction of Sri Krishna in Bhaona; linguistic aspects in his writings; character analysis of Shashi and Satyabhama in Parijat Haran; musical instruments in Vaishnavite traditions; artistry and techniques in his plays; social reforms by Sankardeva; Neo-Vaishnavism and his contributions; folk elements in his literature; Borgeet; Satras and Naamghars; depiction of nature in his works; Naam-Prasanga; use of Brajawali and colloquial language; the social role of Naamghar; artistic contributions in painting; the “Monikanchan Sanjog” (Divine Union); his relevance in the modern world; religious and literary values in Kirtan; the concept of Dasya Bhakti and other forms of devotion in Vaishnavism; and the national significance of his legacy.

Participants may also submit research papers on other relevant topics within the broader theme of “Language, Literature, Culture, and Philosophy of Srimanta Sankardeva.”

The organisers invite papers from academicians, scholars, students, and writers (2,500–3,000 words). Abstracts must be submitted by email to seminarlgbgc@gmail.com by August 15, 2025.

Registration fees are Rs 1,000 for faculty members, Rs 700 for research scholars and students, and Rs 500 for attendees without paper presentation. Fees should be deposited to Account Number 0010200100015525, IQAC, LGB Girls’ College, UCO Bank, Tezpur Branch.
