TEZPUR, April 16: The Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Tezpur, concluded its fortnight-long Swachhta Pakhwada initiative with a vibrant closing ceremony on Wednesday.
The programme, held from April 1 to April 15, 2025, was part of the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission and aimed at promoting cleanliness and hygiene across the institute.
Organised by the Department of Psychiatry, the ceremony began with a welcome address by Dr Suranjan Majumdar and was hosted by Dr Juhi Gupta.
Deputy Director Dr Hemanta Datta presented an overview of the wide range of activities conducted during the campaign.
“These activities have not only improved the physical environment of the institute but have also contributed to mental well-being by fostering a sense of order and community,” said Dr Datta.
Director of LGBRIMH, Dr Jyoti Hazarika, expressed her appreciation for the enthusiastic involvement of staff, campus residents’ children, and patients.
“Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. I’m thankful to everyone who participated and made this initiative meaningful,” she said.
Key activities during the Swachhta Pakhwada included a Swachhta pledge, voluntary shramdaan, pamphlet distribution, office file reorganisation, and a listing of obsolete items.
The institute also organised creative contests like drawing and craft-making for patients, along with quiz competitions, and celebrated World Health Day as part of the campaign.
Notably, biomedical waste (BMW) segregation and disposal were carried out systematically.
Swachhta kits were distributed to underprivileged, homeless, mentally ill female patients—highlighting the institute’s commitment to inclusive care.
The event concluded with the distribution of Kayakalp certificates to individuals recognised as ‘Swachhta Heroes’ for their exceptional contributions to the campaign.
The initiative underscored LGBRIMH’s continued commitment to public health and cleanliness, aligning with the national mission to create a cleaner, healthier India.
