DONGKAMUKAM, June 16: The water level of Kopili river has breached the danger mark and flooded its banks owing to the incessant rains in the last 4 days in West Karbi Anglong.

In addition to the Kopili River flooding its bank, the Umrangso Kandong Dam has also released water from all the gates raising alarm in the downstream areas, i.e. West Karbi Anglong. The Hojai and West Karbi Anglong district administration have alerted the citizens to move to safer areas along with their belongings.

The affected families are seen taking refuge in the embankment by building temporary camps along with their pet animals and cattle. The villages of West Karbi Anglong that are affected are Sildubi, Mukhim arong, Menmiji, Kollongamukh, Chongkan, part of Karbi Rongsopi, Phantengphrang, Deramukh, Khandajan 1 and 2, Rebabali, Bithung Sapori, Jalpara, Rengthama, Taradubi, Namtaradubi, Hatimura etc.

The farmers are the worst sufferers among the flood affected. Those farmers who have planted their paddy nursery are at peril as the sapling is dying due to its going down under the water and those who want to start a paddy nursery for transplantation cannot do so as there is a flood.

Those dwelling along the banks of Kopili River and low lying areas have their jute washed away and their granaries are ruined as their paddy gets rotten. Communication was also affected as the Hojai Tumpreng road remained cut off.
