KOKRAJHAR, Feb 1: The 46th Maghi Purnima celebration and Annual Conference of the Rupamoni Bathou Dhwrwm Afad concluded on Sunday after a three-day programme at Chandrapur Dalaisa Rupamoni Bathou Mondir in Kokrajhar district.
Founded in 1980 with its head office at Gossaigaon, Ranchaidham of Chirang district, the Rupamoni Bathou Dhwrwm is an aboriginal religion of the Bodo community, with traditions of prayer and worship dedicated to Lord Bwrai Bathou. Thousands of devotees thronged the Mondir complex to offer prayers and participate in the celebrations.

During the conference, members discussed the exploration and significance of the Bathou religion among the Bodo community. The concluding day featured an open session chaired by Dharani Kanta Narzary, president of the Rupamoni Bathou Dhwrwm Afad. Chief preacher Guruswami Tikendra Basumatary graced the occasion as the chief guest, while retired APS officer Pradeep Kumar Brahma, former Bodoland University registrar Dr Shekhar Brahma, social worker Santosh Kumar Kakhlary and noted writer and retired headmaster Bibekananda Narzary were prominent attendees.
A new committee for the Rupamoni Bathou Dhwrwm Afad was formed during the delegate session, with Dhanesh Narzary appointed as president for the next two-year tenure. The Moni Bathou, the organisation’s mouthpiece and the Aronbarini Thanshali souvenir were also released to mark the conference.
Our Demow Correspondent adds: On Sunday, devotees gathered at Sri Sri Garakhiya Than in Dhemechi Kalalur Gaon near Demow to offer prayers on the occasion of Maghi Purnima. People from various places lit earthen lamps, incense sticks and offered horai. The traditional Naam Prasaanga is held here every year on Maghi Purnima.
