Gwthar Bathou San celebrated across Bodoland Territorial Region

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 23: The Gwthar Bathou San (Bathou Divosh) was joyously celebrated on Tuesday across the districts of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and the entire state, given that the day was declared a state holiday by the government.

The Gwthar Bathou San-2024 (Bathou Divosh) was observed with Bathou tradition and religious fervour across the state on the second Tuesday of the Magh month. The state government had declared Gwthar Bathou San as a full-fledged holiday to be celebrated every year on the second Tuesday of the Magh month, and it was observed with great festivity.

In Kokrajhar, the Bathou San was celebrated at Bathou Thansali Baganshali, organised by Bathou Traditional & Cultural Center, Kokrajhar. Bathou devotees and people from various communities thronged to the Thansali, offering worship and prayers to Bwrai Bathou (Lord Shiva).

The celebration included the hoisting of the Bathou flag in the morning, followed by floral tributes (Gwtwi Shi Baonai) at the Bathou Thansali. Bathou devotees and citizens from all sections participated, bringing traditional music instruments like Kham, Sifhumg, Jota, and offered workshops and prayers to Bwrai Bathou.

In Tamulpur, Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), graced the occasion as the chief guest at the Gwthar Bathou San celebration held at Hirimba Bathou Thansali. CEM Boro offered worship and prayers to Bwrai Bathou, extending greetings and best wishes to all Bathou followers. He mentioned the importance of keeping Bathouism alive as the aboriginal religion of the Bodos, serving as their identity through language, culture, and religion.

In Udalguri, Bathou Divosh was celebrated at various Thansali with Bathou tradition, witnessing a large gathering since morning. People from all walks of life, adorned in traditional Bodo attire, offered workshops and prayers to Bwrai Bathou on the occasion.

State cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Dr Surath Narzary, ABSU president Dipen Boro, MLA Lawrence Islary extended their greetings and best wishes to all Bathou followers on the holy occasion of Gwthar Bathou San.
