Maina Nayak Incident: Govt Official Suspended

DIBRUGARH, July 27: Assam Labour Welfare Department on Wednesday suspended senior inspector of Factories Dinesh Chandra Roy for negligence of duty in connection with the Maina Nayak incident at Leptakatta factory.

In the notification issued by the principal secretary, Labour Welfare Department, Govt of Assam, the factory inspector has neglected his duty of supervision and enforcement of Rules under 7(a) 2 (c) and 22(2) of the Factories Act, 1948 in the Tea Garden areas under his jurisdiction and it has been reported that his negligence of duty has led to the occurrence of an incident, where a lady factory worker suffered major injuries while discharging her duty in the Lepetkata Tea Estate in Dibrugarh District.

The worker, 24-year-old Maina Nayak, was seriously injured in the factory on July 19.

She was initially admitted at the Assam Medical College and Hospital here but was later shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

The Dibrugarh district administration had ordered a magisterial level inquiry into the incident.
