MARGHERITA, April 26: The police arrested Bikash Beria, who in involved in betting in the ongoing IPL matches, from his residence in on Friday morning.
The police conducted a raid at Beria’s residence situated at Manav Kalyan in Tinsukia early in the morning on Friday, where he was apprehended along with cash worth Rs 10,76,300. A police team led by deputy superintendent of Tinsukia police, Pulakesh Rabha conducted the raid.
The police also recovered cash worth Rs 9 lakhs from the residence of Nitin Beria, also an IPL bookie and brother Bikash Beria. However, he fled before the police could arrest him.
According to sources, one person had filed a complaint against an IPL bookie, Supreet Biswas at the Tinsukia Police Station on April 19. A case was registered against him under section 14 and 15 of the Assam Gambling and Betting Act, 1970 section 14, 15. During interrogation, Biswas revealed about Beria, which finally led to his arrest.
Beria is currently being interrogated by the police. More of such operations will be launched to nab such bookies in the near future.
On the other hand, the police also conducted a raid at the residence of another IPL bookie, Sarfaraz Ahmed. However, they could not find anything from there.
Pulakesh Rabha said, “The manhunt against IPL bookies will continue till all of them are behind bars. Several people, especially youths in Tinsukia district have lost a lot of money during this ongoing IPL cricket matches.”
