MARGHERITA, July 13: Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma has challenged Raijor Dal President and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi to contest the upcoming 2026 Assembly election from the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency.

The statement came in response to comments made by Akhil Gogoi during an election campaign held at Rangamancha in North Margherita on July 13.

During his address, Gogoi reportedly made remarks against Bhaskar Sharma that have sparked controversy across Assam.

Reacting to the remarks, Sharma criticised Gogoi’s conduct and questioned his decorum.

“Akhil Gogoi lacks the manners to speak properly. I do not consider someone who speaks inappropriately and disregards the dignity of the Assembly to be a true legislator. I have been elected twice from the Margherita constituency due to my work, dedication, and public support,” Sharma said.

He further challenged Gogoi to contest from Margherita in the next election, asserting that even the candidate projected by Gogoi would not be able to compete with him.

Sharma also made strong personal remarks against Gogoi, stating, “He is a useless and arrogant person. That is why he kisses and hugs Bangladeshi Miya women during eviction drives in Assam. I have no time to respond to questions raised by Akhil Gogoi.”
