MARGHERITA, April 19: The Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency recorded 73.08 per cent of voters’ turnout during the first phase of Lok Sabha polls on Friday.
The polling commenced from 7 am and concluded at 5 pm at polling stations in Margherita under the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency.
The total number of voters in Margherita is 1,69,732, of which 82,865 are males and 84,367 are females. Voting was conducted in 194 polling constituencies.
Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the candidate of the United Opposition Forum Assam, Union minister and BJP candidate, Sarbananda Sonowal and Aam Aadmi Party candidate, Manoj Dhanwar are in the fray for the Dibrugrah parliamentary seats.
Gogoi had gained popularity across the state in connection with the CAA movement on behalf of the Congress alliance. Manoj Dhanowar, son of late Congress leader and former Digboi MLA Rameshwar Dhanowar has contested in the elections on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party.
While Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma cast his vote at the Margherita Public Higher Secondary School, Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita cast his vote at the Margherita Segunbary Primary School on Friday. No untoward incident was reported in Margherita.
