Martyrdom of Language Movement figures commemorated at Nagaon

Nagaon, July 10: Kolongpar Vidyapith Senior Secondary School in Nagaon recently organised a commemoration event at the auditorium of Nagaon Cultural Complex to honour the memory of two prominent figures in Assamese literature and language, Surya Bora and lyricist Nurul Haque.
The program commenced with floral tributes offered to the portraits of the two revered individuals who dedicated and sacrificed their lives for Assamese literature and language. Thagit Mahanta, president of Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, presided over the commemoration program, while Padum Rajkhuwa, principal of the school and former secretary general of Asom Sahitya Sabha, served as the anchor for the entire event. Amarjit Goswami, former principal of Kolongpar Vidyapith Senior Secondary School, delivered the welcome address.
The program was graced by the presence of Sanjib Gohain Boruah (IAS), the grandson of Padma Nath Gohain Boruah, the founder president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, as a special invitee. Noted litterateur, translator, and Sahitya Akademi awardee Bipul Deori ceremonially inaugurated the commemoration program. Dr Sanjib Kr Sarma, former secretary to the Guwahati office of Asom Sahitya Sabha, elaborated on the life of martyr Surya Bora and the history of the Language Movement in Assam. Manik Ahmed, a renowned producer and director of Assamese stage drama, spoke about the life and contributions of lyricist Nurul Haque.
During the program, renowned Assamese poet and physician Dr Prayag Saikia, Pradeep Kumar Saikia, Dr Manju Laskar, Kushal Dutta, Sanjib Sagar Chaudhary, Mayur Kr Bora, Kandarpa Kalita, and others recited their own poems. Additionally, radio artist and singer Dr Jayshree Devi, Ranjan Bezboruah, Mridul Boruah, and Kalpita Devi performed music and songs.
The program witnessed the participation of over 200 distinguished personalities from across the district and the state, as well as students from Kolongpar Vidyapith. The event concluded with a brief vote of thanks by Atul Chandra Boruah, a faculty member of Kolongpar Vidyapith, as stated in a press note.
