Massive fire engulfs CSIR-NEIST general stores in Jorhat

JORHAT, Feb 20: A huge fire broke out at the building housing the general stores section of the CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) at Pulibor in the early hours of Friday.

A CSIR-NEIST source stated that the general stores part of the building, which contained chemicals and many non-serviceable materials was largely damaged.

Fire tenders from Jorhat, other Fire and Emergency Services units, oil and defence installations across the district and also from Golaghat rushed to the site. It took several hours to bring the blaze under control by noon.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and the extent of the damage is yet to be assessed. Officials said that CSIR-NEIST authorities have lodged an FIR at Pulibor Police Station regarding the incident.

It is to be mentioned that media personnel were prevented by security at the institute entrance from entering to collect news.
