Organised under the Tai Ahom Unity Platform, the rally saw more than 10,000 participants raising slogans and carrying flambeaux, creating a charged atmosphere across the town. The protest began with the lighting of an earthen lamp at the statue of Chaolung Sukapha near Eco Park, started from Margherita Town High School playground, proceeded along NH 315 and concluded at North Margherita Rangmanch.

Protest leaders condemned the BJP government at both the state and central levels for failing to fulfil promises to the Tai Ahom community since 2014. They demanded that ST status and an Autonomous Council be granted before the 2026 Assembly elections and warned of intensified protests and a potential boycott of the elections if their demands are not met.The rally underscored the community’s urgent call for recognition and autonomous governance.
