Meeting on road safety held in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, April 29: The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) organised a meeting on road safety at the DC Conference hall in Haflong in Dima Hasao district on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by the district commissioner cum chairman of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), Simanta Kr. Das in presence of Dima Hasao superintendent of police, Mayank Kumar.

In the meeting, the district commissioner held discussion on road safety measures with the District Road Safety Committee members and reviewed the accident data, action taken by the transport department against overloading of people in pickup vans and other similar vehicles, the draft of the SOP for referral of emergency cases of road accident to appropriate medical institution at the earliest by the committee and joint enforcement drive against drunk and drive by police, transport and excise departments, review of awareness programme conducted by education department as per target set in the DRSC portal, repairing of potholes on various stretches on NH-27 by NHAI, installation of road safety sign board at various locations by all division of PWD roads and NHAI as instructed by SP, Dima Hasao.

The Dima Hasao superintendent of police informed that as per available data more than 16 accidents occurred and more than 14 persons lost their lives due to road accidents in the district this year. As per data analysis most of the road accidents occurred in between Lanka and Umrangso road.

After a prolonged discussion, the district commissioner asked the DRSC members to submit an action plan report, to prepare various strategies, signboard and promote awareness to public and students about the various aspects of road safety. He urged the public to drive vehicles safely and carefully along the road, to drive within the prescribed speed limit and refrain from drunken driving.

The meeting was also attended by ADC James Aind, additional SP, Dima Hasao, DTO, Dima Hasao, Parikshit Barman Thaosen and officials from NHAI and several other head of departments.
