GUWAHATI, Nov 17: MP Parimal Suklabaidya on Monday hailed Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s “visionary leadership” for bringing a revolution in healthcare across Assam while addressing the LAC-wise Mega Child Health Camp held at Swadhin Bazar High School, Sonai. The camp organised by the Cachar District Administration under the Sushrusha Setu programme, marked a major step toward early detection and timely treatment of health conditions among children.
Suklabaidya said the Chief Minister’s reforms have made advanced screenings accessible even in rural areas and stressed that screening children aged 0 to 18 for multiple health conditions will significantly strengthen long-term health indicators in the state. He also lauded interdepartmental coordination and the dedication of on-ground teams.

The camp saw a massive turnout, with 3,641 children screened and 414 referred to higher medical centres for specialised treatment. Sonai MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya thanked the Chief Minister for enabling screening for 59 critical diseases and appreciated the support of District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, police, Silchar Medical College & Hospital and line departments. He termed the initiative a milestone in safeguarding children’s health.
District Commissioner Mridul Kumar Yadav praised the Health Department’s efficiency and assured full administrative support for future camps. Calling this the sixth such camp in Cachar, he said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring no child in need of care is left behind. He acknowledged the tireless work of medical teams, grassroots workers and officials.
Welcoming the gathering, Joint Director of Health Services Dr Shibananda Roy explained that the Mega Health Camps—launched to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday—aim to ensure timely screening and medical intervention for every child in Assam. He said all referred children will receive treatment at specialised centres and urged parents to attend follow-up consultations at SMC&H.
Senior officials, including Assistant Commissioner Deepa Das, ACS, DIO Dr Sakh, SDM&HO Sonai Dr Eijaz Ahmed Laskar and DPM NHM Cachar Rahul Ghosh, attended the programme alongside anganwadi workers, volunteers and health teams.
As Cachar continues LAC-wise health melas, the district administration reiterated its mission to ensure every child is screened, treated and supported through a robust healthcare framework aimed at building a stronger, healthier generation.
