GUWAHATI, Feb 11: The Town Club Playground in Silchar turned into a vibrant cultural hub as Cachar’s guardian minister and minister for PHE, housing & urban affairs Jayanta Mallabaruah, graced the Zonal Jhumoir Dance Training Camp alongside minister for food public distribution, mines & minerals, and Barak Valley development Koushik Rai, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Cachar district commissioner Mridul Yadav, and superintendent of police Numal Mahatto.
Dancers from Cachar, Hailakandi, and Srivhumi districts showcased their dedication and talent, refining their steps in preparation for the grand ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ program scheduled to take place at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati, later this month.
The training camp reflected the deep-rooted tradition of Jhumui dance, an art form that has long been a symbol of cultural pride in Assam.
Adding a special touch to the event minister Jayanta Malla Baruah actively engaged with the participants and even joined them in a spirited Jhumoir dance rehearsal, fostering a sense of unity and encouragement. His enthusiasm and participation were met with applause, further energizing the performers ahead of their grand stage performance in Guwahati.
Speaking to media persons after the event Baruah expressed his admiration for the young talents and their commitment to preserving Assam’s cultural heritage. “Jhumoir dance is not just a form of artistic expression but a reflection of our tradition and unity. It is heartening to see such dedication from our youth, and I am confident that their performance at Sarusajai Stadium will leave an indelible mark. Our government remains committed to promoting and preserving our rich cultural legacy,” he remarked.
It is pertinent to mention here that the grand spectacle of cultural heritage is set to unfold on February 24 at Saro Sojaoo Stadium in Guwahati, as an impressive contingent of participants from Cachar, Sribhumi, and Hailakandi will come together to join a magnificent Mega Jhumoir Dance performance. A total of 180 participants from Cachar, including 100 dancers, 67 instrumentalists, and 13 master trainers, will showcase their talent alongside 64 participants from Sribhumi (20 dancers, 37 instrumentalists, and 7 master trainers) and 102 participants from Hailakandi, featuring 20 dancers, 76 instrumentalists, and 6 master trainers.
This grand event promises to be a mesmerizing celebration of rhythm, tradition, and unity, highlighting the rich cultural essence of the region. With vibrant movements and soul-stirring music, the Mega Jhumoir Dance will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the hearts of all spectators.
