Minister Kaushik Rai reviews NH-27 works, targets January 2026 completion

49-km East-West corridor stretch to open soon, focus on timely delivery and public convenience

GUWAHATI, Nov 22: Minister Kaushik Rai, in charge of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Mines & Minerals, visited the East-West Corridor (NH-27) stretch from Harangajao to Jatinga to review ongoing construction and maintenance activities. During the inspection, he interacted with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials regarding development progress.

Later, at a review meeting held at Circuit House, Haflong, the Minister discussed road connectivity, infrastructure development and public convenience with key officials of the line departments. Emphasising timely completion, he instructed authorities to ensure smooth transportation and directed NHAI to expedite pending works.

It was decided that the 49-km stretch from Nrimbanglo (Maibang Sub-division, Dima Hasao) to Harangajao will open to the public in January 2026. Of this, 7–8 km will remain partially four-lane and partially two-lane with 85.3% of the work already completed.

The Minister was accompanied by Kanad Purkayastha M P (Rajya Sabha), Mihir Kanti Shome MLA (Udarbond), Niharanjan Das MLA (Dholai) and senior officials including Donpainon Thaosen Executive Member, NCHAC, Partha Sarathi Jahari Principal Secretary, NCHAC and Munindra Nath Ngatey DCof Dima Hasao. Civil society representatives also raised concerns regarding compensation matters, which were directed to be resolved promptly.
