Minister Kaushik Rai reviews progress of east–west corridor (NH-27)

Progress inches up on NH-27, but key stretches still lag behind

HAFLONG, Nov 29: Kaushik Rai, Minister of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Mines & Minerals, Assam, chaired a review meeting at 12:00 PM on Saturday in the Conference Hall of the Circuit House, Haflong, to assess progress on the 4-lane East–West Corridor (NH-27) stretch from Jatinga to Harangajao.

Since the previous review held on November 22, 2025, the overall completion percentage has increased from 85.71% to 86.13%.

The Minister stressed the need to expedite works in critical locations including Gerem, Jatinga, Miyungkro, Boro Muolkoi, Rekho and Dolaichunga.

The meeting noted several challenges in the Jatinga–Harangajao section, which comprises multiple bridges and culverts.

Although the targeted completion date is January 31, 2026, officials stated that 7–8 km of the stretch will initially remain partially 4-lane and partially 2-lane.

However, the project director, NHAI, assured that the entire 4-lane project would be completed by April 30, 2026.

Those present at the review meeting included Executive Member, NCHAC, Donpainon Thaosen; District Commissioner, Dima Hasao, Munindranath Ngatey, ACS; Principal Secretary, NCHAC, Partha Jahari, ACS; Secretaries of NCHAC; officials from NHAI and NHIDCL; the ADC; and other senior officials.

The minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to timely completion of the East–West Corridor, underscoring its significance for connectivity, trade and socio-economic development in Dima Hasao and the wider region.
