HAFLONG, Dec 4: Minister of state for Tea Tribe and Labour Welfare, Sanjoy Kishan, has been on a two-day visit to Dima Hasao since Tuesday. This is his first visit after his reassignment as the guardian minister for the district.
As part of the visit, the minister visited Nanadisa and Saron villages under the Mahur constituency, accompanied by NCHAC chief executive member Debolal Gorlosa, executive member Probita Johori, and other officials. The visit aimed to assess the progress of Model Anganwadi Centre buildings and discuss the requirements to complete the construction.
A review meeting was held at the conference hall of the Council Secretariat to take stock of the progress of works and schemes undertaken by the state government as well as the council authority, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, education, agriculture, and other sectors.
Simultaneously, a meeting on the 7th Finance Commission was also held jointly, where the chairman of the 7th Assam State Finance Commission, Lt Gen (retd) Rana Pratap Kalita, was present. The meeting primarily focused on the 7th Finance Commission and discussed various parameters for considering a special dispensation for Assam’s only hill district. They also explored the scope for promoting the tourism sector.
A PowerPoint presentation briefing on the district’s geographical features and council details was given by the principal secretary, Thai Tsho Daulagupu. The principal secretary of NCHAC’s normal sector, Rajit Karigapsa, was also present.
During his address, the guardian minister emphasised that the tourism sector has tremendous potential in Dima Hasao and expressed confidence that people would choose this place as their next tourist destination, similar to Kaziranga and Meghalaya. He also assured that he would present the opportunities to the Assam Tourism minister in this regard.
