KOKRAJHAR, May 24: Police administration in Kokrajhar have apprehended two persons in connection with the gang-rape of a 16-year-old minor girl at a remote village under Salakati police outpost in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday.
According to police, a 16-year-old school going girl was allegedly gang-raped by three persons when she was on her way home from a nearby shop around 7 pm late last evening.

The girl had gone to buy some necessary items at the shop which is around 100 metres from her home. While returning, the accused forcefully took the girl to an isolated place and took turns raping her.
They also threatened the girl to remain silent. The victim after reaching home alerted her mother, and an FIR was registered with the police.
Police immediately started their investigation into the incident and apprehended two of the three accused persons.
The two arrested have been identified as Afruddin Islam (22 yrs) of Deoboba under Salakati police station in Kokrajhar district and Sanejuddin Ali (19 yrs) of Arimari under Chapar police station in Dhubri were arrested while the third accused Mustafa Ali (23 yrs) of Deoboba under Salakati police station in Kokrajhar district is absconding.
An FIR was lodged with Kokrajhar PS case No. 247/22, under section (u/s) 363/368/376(3)/376(d)(a)/34 IPC R/W Sec 6 of POCSO Act
The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) and local people carried out a protest demonstration at Salakati police outpost demanding immediate arrest of all the accused and punishment for the guilty involved. The AKRSU gave 24 hours to the police administration demanding the arrest of all the accused. They also demanded stern punishment against the accused.
Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary visited Salakati outpost to take stock of the situation. Condemning the incident, the MLA called upon the police administration to take necessary action against the accused involved in the two incidents of minor rape cases under the Salakati police outpost.
Notably, this is the third incident of minor rape in Kokrajhar within the same month, and the second case under Salakati police station.
On May 9, a 15-year-old minor tribal girl was raped. Though an FIR was filed, the accused identified as Amir Hamja (24) of Salakati Bazar Majidpara is still on the run.
Before that on May 6, two minors aged 13 and 14 were held captive the whole night and gang-raped by three persons under Kokrajhar police station. All the accused in their teens were arrested.
