Moonmi Gogoi elected Margherita Anchalik Panchayat president

MARGHERITA, July 14: Moonmi Gogoi from Bargolai Gaon Panchayat was unanimously elected president of the Margherita Anchalik Panchayat on Monday, in a ceremony held at the Margherita Development Block office.

Her election marks a significant development for the 83rd Margherita Legislative Constituency in Assam’s Tinsukia district. Rajendra Rai was also elected vice president.

The election was conducted among members of 13 Anchalik Panchayats, with both leaders chosen unanimously.

Gogoi, a member of the Anchalik Panchayat from Bargolai, expressed gratitude for the support she received and said she would work for the welfare and inclusive development of the region.

The ceremony was attended by several prominent leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP and former Union Minister Rameshwar Teli.

Also present were Margherita BJP Sadar, Town, and Block Mandal presidents and general secretaries, along with senior BJP leaders including Bhabesh Dutta and Bhim Karmakar.

During the programme, Margherita BJP Town Mandal president Sukhdev Sharma highlighted the development initiatives led by local MLA Bhaskar Sharma.

He also criticised Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi for remarks made during an election campaign in Margherita on Sunday, calling them inflammatory and unfounded.

Sharma defended the work of MLA Bhaskar Sharma, stating that the people of Margherita had seen visible progress and development under his leadership and would continue to support the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2026 Assembly elections.

The election of Moonmi Gogoi and Rajendra Rai was seen as a reflection of unity and forward-looking governance.

The event concluded with renewed calls for collective growth and grassroots empowerment.
