DIBRUGARH, May 10: In a heartwarming initiative marking Mother’s Day, the organisation Animal Welfare People organised its 12th adoption camp in Dibrugarh on Sunday, offering abandoned and stray animals a chance to find caring homes.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from animal lovers and local residents many of whom came forward to adopt rescued animals and support the organisation’s ongoing welfare activities.
The initiative traces its roots back to 2018, when noted animal lover Vineet Bagaria launched a movement in Dibrugarh dedicated to the protection and care of stray animals. Fondly remembered as the “Dogs Father” by many locals, Bagaria devoted his life to animal welfare and compassion for voiceless creatures.
Even after his untimely demise, his mission has continued through a dedicated group of young volunteers who transformed the movement into Animal Welfare People. The organisation remains actively involved in rescuing, treating and rehabilitating stray and injured animals, while also spreading awareness about kindness towards animals.
As part of the Mother’s Day adoption camp, veterinary consultation facilities were arranged for individuals adopting pets. Special provisions for animal food and medicines were also made available to help new caregivers provide proper care to their adopted companions.
Speaking on the occasion, organisation president Gayatri Hazarika said that more than 500 dogs have been vaccinated against rabies under the initiative started by Vineet Bagaria. She added that the organisation regularly carries out treatment and care for sick and abandoned animals across the district.
Hazarika further stated that Vineet Bagaria had shown deep affection for animals since childhood and began helping stray animals independently during his youth. Over time, many like-minded young people joined his efforts, helping the movement grow into a recognised welfare initiative.
The campaign continues to receive support from Vineet Bagaria’s father and social worker Kailash Bagaria, along with family members and well-wishers who remain committed to carrying forward his humanitarian vision.
The organisation’s continued efforts are widely appreciated as a symbol of compassion, humanity and social responsibility in the community.
