MORIGAON, April 4: In a significant development, the state Agriculture Department has initiated innovative steps towards increasing farmers’ income through procuring mustard seeds at minimum prices in the state. As an innovative addition to increase farmers’ income, the Department of Agriculture has taken steps to purchase mustard seed from farmers for the second time at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 5650 per quintal through Assam State Agricultural Commodity Marketing Council and Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited. The Morigaon district Agriculture Department is also procuring mustard seeds at government-subsidised prices at Manaha Mustard Seeds Procurement Center and Aujari Mustard Seeds Procurement Centre, Manipur in the district since March 15. Farmers who wish to sell mustard seeds at government-subsidised prices are required to register on the concerned portal and submit copies of Aadhaar card, land deposit, and bank passbook to the concerned agricultural development officer and collect the necessary certificates for selling soybeans.
It’s imperative to adhere to the quality standards for mustard seeds, the content of mustard seed should not exceed 2 percent. The content of small and fragile grains should not exceed 10 percent. The moisture content of such mustard seeds shall not exceed 8 percent. The mustard seeds must be clean.
The deadline for selling produce at the government-supported price is June 15, 2024.
