NAGAON, March 21: With a day-long programme, Nagaon district administration has geared up to observe the foundation day of the district for the first time on March 27 here and completed almost all preparedness in this regard.
While addressing a press conference at DC’s conference hall on Tuesday, deputy commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah said a slew of programmes including cultural procession, gram sabha at every gram panchayat have been scheduled to be held since morning across the district on March 27 here. Besides, a slew of competitions including quiz, seminars covering past, present and future of Nagaon district, will be held at various educational institutions across the district too.
Similarly, deputy commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah also urged all residents of the district to lighten an earthen lamp in the front yard at every household in the evening on that particular day.
He however ensured that as part of celebration, a cultural extravaganza would be organised at Nagaon district library auditorium in the evening in which a dozen of noted singers or other artistes would perform their music or other activities on March 27. A documentary film and a song on Nagaon district will be ceremonially released during the cultural programme at Nagaon district library auditorium, he said further.
It’s noteworthy to be mentioned here that Nagaon was declared as a district on March 27, 1833 by then British rulers.
