NAGAON, July 23: The District Social Welfare Department of Nagaon, under SANKALP and DHEW, launched a 100-day special awareness cum enrollment drive for Mission Shakti with women-centric legislation at Dakshin Jewmari LP School located in Jewmari Bazar under the Rupahi ICDS project on Monday.
Over a hundred participants, including supervisors, GP members, AWWs, ASHA workers, adolescent girls, and their respective parents, attended the event. Rajlakshmi Sandilya, gender specialist, Surajit Borthakur, and Jaya Priya Kalita attended the event as resource persons, while Queen Borah, district programme coordinator cum district mission coordinator of SANKALP DHEW, mentored the programme. The event was initiated under the guidance of ADC Kaku Moni Saikia and district social welfare officer Nagaon Bholanath Pegu.
During the event, the ill effects of early marriage of girl children and teenage pregnancy, as well as the role of 1098 services and DHEW in this regard, were highlighted and screened. Additionally, the resource persons elaborated on various schemes like BBBP, Shakti Sadan, Sakhi Niwas, Palna, One Stop Centre, 181 women helpline, and PMMVY being active or implemented for the welfare of women and girls across the district, according to a press note.
