DIBRUGARH, Feb 7: The inter-state dispute between Assam-Arunachal Pradesh has been an old one but both the governments has been trying to resolve the issue by taking a slew of measures.
However, there are initiatives that are being taken up by the governments of both states, which were aimed to create an atmosphere of brotherhood and bonhomie among the people from both the states.
One such excellent example is the setting up of a Namghar cum Heritage Centre at Namsang in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.
It was regarded as a dream project of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi and Arunachal Pradesh forest minister Wanki Lowang.
In fact, a Rs 5 crore budget for the construction of the historic project has been sanctioned by Sarma and the first installment of Rs 2 crore has been released.
The approach road and the 3 bigha land were allocated by Arunachal Pradesh govt.
MLA Taranga Gogoi and Dibrugarh district commissioner Bikram Kairi and Arunachal minister Lowang and Zila Parishad member Wanphoon Lowang have been jointly monitoring the progress of the project on ground.
The 80 Assamese families in the Deomali area of the district who were feeling elated due to the coming up of the project expressed their gratitude towards the Chief Minister for sanctioning the project.
It might be mentioned that earlier there were 60 Namghars in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, but today owing to certain reasons, there are only 7 namghars in the district.
“Since 1960, I am living in Namsang for Sanathan Dharma. I originally hail from Jorhat, Assam. 80 Assamese families are living in Deomali for many years and now a Namghar and Heritage centre will be coming up in Namsang. We are very much happy with this initiative taken by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,” said Chitra Sarma, namgharia of Namsang.
Deomali Zila Parishad member(ZPM) Wangphoon Lowang said, “We are very much thankful to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for helping us to build the Namghar and Heritage Centre in Namsang. Assam and Arunachal have a relation of 400 years but we have come into Vaishnav fold some 300 years ago.
Our forefathers have taken Vaishnav Dharma and the king of Namsang had come into Vaishnav fold and frequently went to Assam to take blessings from Satras. But some 20-30 years our relation has been cut off due to divide in religion lines. We believe that through this Namghar our relation will be again become stronger like early times.”
