NAP pays tribute to Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha

GUWAHATI, June 20: Alongside the rest of the state, the New Art Players (NAP), Guwahati, a prominent socio-cultural organisation, observed Rabha Divas on June 20, 2025, with a tribute to legendary artist Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha.

The evening programme, held at 6:00 PM in the organisation’s newly constructed auditorium, was anchored by NAP Vice President Mallika Barua.

According to an official statement, the ceremonial lamp was lit by NAP President Ajay Dutta before Rabha’s portrait, followed by floral tributes from members and invited artists.

The ceremony began with a Mangalacharan by Jaba Chakravarty and a moment of silence in honour of Bishnu Rabha and cultural stalwart Purushottam Das.

In his welcome address, President Ajay Dutta paid tribute to the artist’s enduring legacy.

In keeping with NAP tradition, four children of members who excelled in examinations were felicitated, along with three guest artists—Pulak Banerjee, Ruby Singha, and Abani Bora.

A highlight of the event was a musical narrative titled Chifung Bahir Karun Xur, composed in tribute to Kalaguru Rabha.

Based on his songs and poems, it was written by Dr. Madhurima Barua and directed by music composer Anupam Choudhury.

Narration was delivered by Nayan Prasad and Melody Patgiri.

Musical performances featured artists such as Pulak Banerjee, Ruby Singha, Rubul Kalita, Spandan Chakravarty, Shamima Khatun, Sunayana Goswami Sharma, Anupama Sharma, Dr Mallika Saikia Barua, Manjurima Saikia, and Nirada Chakravarty.

Poetry was recited by Abani Bora and Kritanjali Dutta.

Instrumental support came from Rajkumar Ravi Das (tabla), Bhaviram Boro (keyboard), Deep Rajbongshi (guitar), and Hiren Das (electronic pads).

The audience appreciated the blend of senior and emerging talent.

The programme concluded with the rendition of the State Anthem.
