National-level tourism conclave held at Bir Lachit Borphukan College

SIVASAGAR, Jan 30: A national-level tourism conclave, “Sivasagar Tourism Conclave 2026”, was held at Bir Lachit Borphukan College, organised by the Lachit Borphukan Research Centre.

The day-long event was moderated by Dr Nibedita Deka, Professor of Agricultural Economics, Assam Agricultural University and featured a panel including Dr Nitesh Kumar (Kaziranga University), environmentalist Dr Hemjit Deodhai Phukan, tourism entrepreneur Partha Pratim Sharma and Prabin Sharma (Sivasagar Girls’ College).

Dr Nitesh Kumar highlighted lessons from Jaipur for boosting Sivasagar’s tourism, while Dr Phukan stressed sustainable tourism and promoting local trade and indigenous products. Partha Pratim Sharma discussed challenges and practical measures for tourism growth and Prabin Sharma underscored coordinated efforts with district authorities. Representatives from travel agencies, tour operators and civil society shared experiences during an interactive session.

The programme began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Dipali Neog, Vice-Principal of the college and a dance performance by student Palki Khongia. Dr Birinchi Kumar Bora, Principal of Hemchandra Dev Goswami College, formally inaugurated the conclave. Dr Pankaj Jyoti Hazarika, Principal of Bir Lachit Borphukan College, presented the “Three H Model” as a roadmap for tourism development. The event was anchored by Nabajyoti Sharma and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dhruvajyoti Borthakur.

The conclave provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for sustainable tourism and regional economic growth, marking a successful event in promoting Sivasagar as a tourism destination.
