NAGAON, Oct 16: The Post Graduate Department of Geography, Nowgong Girls’ College in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell, organised a two day long national seminar sponsored by ICSSR on ‘Environment, Livelihood and Self Reliance with special reference to North East India’ on Friday and Saturday last here at the college premises.
The inaugural session was chaired by Dr Tusheswar Nath, president of the college governing body while Dr Balin Kr Bhuyan, principal of the college welcomed the guests and other participants in the programme. Professor B S Mipun, former head, Department of Geography, NEHU, Shillong inaugurated the seminar.
Over 64 research papers were received from academicians, research scholars and other students of prominent universities as well as colleges of the region. Professor Dhrubajyoti Sahariah, head, Department of Geography, Gauhati University attended the seminar as the keynote speaker. In his speech, professor Sahariah stressed on the need to urgently transfer the wetland to the Forest department from the Revenue department for its proper conservation.
Seminar on second day began with a speech by Dr C Prakasham, associate professor of Geography, Assam University, Diphu campus. A total of 42 research papers were presented in four technical sessions chaired by Dr B.S. Mipun, Dr C Prakasham, Dr Bismita Bora and Prasanta Kr Gogoi.
