The seminar was organised by the Department of Economics of the college in collaboration with the National Small Industries Corporation with support from North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd and NABARD. It featured five technical sessions covering themes such as environment, agriculture, governance, infrastructure and gender in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

A total of 142 participants from 50 educational institutions and government organisations across states including Delhi, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Assam submitted 89 research papers.

At the inaugural session, keynote speaker Prof Ajitava Raychaudhuri, retired professor of economics at Jadavpur University, emphasised that financial sustainability must complement environmental sustainability for long-term growth. He underlined that sustainable development is multidimensional, involving both green transition and fiscal stability, including management of government debt. He stated that India’s debt remains sustainable and that fiscal space allows continued budget deficits while maintaining manageable debt levels. He also highlighted capital formation as essential for achieving developed nation status, noting that higher public savings could support investment and income growth.

Dr Hrishikesh Baruah, Principal of KC Das Commerce College, said India’s ancient heritage should guide the aspiration of Viksit Bharat 2047. Representatives from collaborating institutions, including Loken Das of NABARD and Rajesh Madan of NSIC, also addressed the gathering. MLA Vijay Gupta shared his vision for Viksit Bharat 2047, while Prof Amlandeep Choudhury extended greetings to participants. Dr Ashok Kumar Laskar also attended the event.
