NCHAC CEM Gorlosa launches scholarships for BPL students

HAFLONG, April 29: Chief executive member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC),  Debolal Gorlosa launched a scholarship scheme for BPL students in the Dima Hasao district during the 73rd foundation day celebrations of the autonomous council on Monday.

The 73rd foundation day of NCHAC was celebrated with great fervour at the District Library Auditorium in Haflong on Monday.

The scholarship will be provided to students, who demonstrated exceptional performance in the HSLC exam held this year. Under this scheme, students achieving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd divisions in the exam will be awarded scholarships of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. This initiative is designed to empower youths from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and foster a brighter future within the district. BPL students are encouraged to reach out to their respective EMs/MACs to avail themselves of these scholarships for their further studies.

As part of the festivities, the NCHAC government lauded the top 10 government schools in the Dima Hasao district that achieved a 100 percent pass percentage in the HSLC examination this year. CEM Debolal Gorlosa honored these institutions, including the Debarai High School, the Songpijang High School and others for their outstanding performance. Additionally, two exemplary students from government schools, third rank holder Kasaindi Hojai and seventh rank holder Hrishita Deka were ceremoniously felicitated during the event.

Looking ahead, CEM Debolal Gorlosa outlined his vision for the next five years, emphasizing the provision of essential facilities such as electricity, drinking water, and sports amenities to schools with a 100 per cent pass percentage. Furthermore, plans are underway to construct guest houses in Haflong to accommodate visitors from all constituencies, ensuring convenience for all.

State power minister Nandita Gorlosa in her address paid tribute to the founding members of the council and expressed gratitude to the people of Dima Hasao for their continued support. Chairman Mohit Hojai also spoke on the establishment and evolution of the council over the years.

The celebrations featured vibrant cultural performances by various cultural troupes representing Dimasa, Jeme, Hrangkhol and other indigenous communities. The event witnessed a significant turnout, with representatives from gaonburas, mozadars, villagers, and supporters from across Dima Hasao in attendance, underscoring the community’s solidarity and commitment to progress.
