HAFLONG, Nov 20: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is scheduled to visit Dima Hasao on November 22. The meeting will be held at Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School from 10:00 am, as informed by the officials.
The core mandate of the Commission is to enable all children to enjoy their rights as enshrined in the Constitution and provided under various Acts and laws.
The Commission will accept complaints regarding the violation and deprivation of children’s rights. Any person, including children, parents, guardians, caretakers, or any other individual working for child rights, can submit their complaints before the Bench on this day. Registration for the camp starts at 9:00 am at the school campus.
There is no restriction on the nature of complaints. Grievances may include issues such as the elimination of child labor or distress faced by adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18, as well as children below 14 years of age. This may encompass concerns like the engagement of children in hazardous occupations, employment of children as domestic workers, non-payment of dues or compensation, repatriation of rescued child labourers, and employment of children for begging.
Complaints may also relate to juvenile justice, care of neglected or marginalised children, or children with disabilities. Cases may include acid attacks, begging, child abuse and neglect, child care institutions, child trafficking, the death of a child, kidnapping, missing children, murder, suicide, and violations of child rights by the media.
Other issues may involve education, such as the absence of schools in the neighbourhood, concerns about capitation fees, corporal punishment or physical abuse in schools, and laws relating to children, including the POCSO Act of 2012, the Child Marriage Act of 2006, and the Information Technology Act of 2000. Cyber safety, child health, care, welfare, development, child psychology, and sociology may also be discussed.
The meeting, scheduled for Friday, will be attended by all CDPOs, BDOs of all blocks, the medical team, and key officials from various line departments.
