ADC Devi outlined the meeting’s objective, highlighting the District Level Bench Camp scheduled for November 8, 2024, at Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Haflong. This bench will serve as a platform to address grievances related to violations of children’s rights, providing a mechanism for individuals to lodge complaints about any form of deprivation or abuse affecting children in the district.

She emphasised the importance of gathering data on child rights issues at the grassroots level, requesting block development officers (BDOs) to coordinate with Village Level Committees and stakeholders to report any instances of child rights violations. The collected information will be submitted to the District Commissioner’s Office for further action.

The bench camp will be open to complaints from anyone connected to children’s welfare, including children themselves, parents, guardians, and child rights advocates. Complaints can come from any setting involving children, such as street settings, schools, child care institutions, children’s homes, hostels, or any other facility where children study, train, or reside.

Additionally, the District Child Protection Unit submitted a list of NGO volunteers who will work to raise awareness and support the Village and Block Level Committees.
