JORHAT, Oct 26: Dr Bijit Kumar Choudhury, a Senior Scientist specializing in Geology and Computational Seismology at the Geo Sciences and Technology Division (GSTD), CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST) in Jorhat, Assam, has been selected for the Scientific High Level Visiting Fellowships (SSHN) program for the year 2023. He will undertake a short research trip to France (SRTF) in the senior researcher category.
Dr Choudhury’s visit will take him to the Institut de Physique du Globe (IPGP) at the University of Paris, France. The primary aim of this research trip is to work on a collaborative earthquake research project within the Earth Sciences and Astronomy research domain.
Out of 554 applications received by IFI/Embassy of France, only 51 were selected for this prestigious fellowship. The selection was based on the excellence of the research project proposed, its significance for bilateral scientific cooperation, the reputation of the French and eminent Indian Higher Education and Research Institutions (HERI) involved, and alignment with the eligibility criteria and selection guidelines outlined in the call for applications.
The fellowship is funded by the French Institute in India (IFI) in collaboration with the Embassy of France in India. Dr Choudhury’s application stood out due to the alignment of its scope of interest with some of the strategic priorities of stakeholders and the comprehensive articulation of the project, as evidenced by the deliverables.
The French Institute in India (IFI) is the educational, scientific, and cultural wing of the Embassy of France in India, and this initiative aims to nurture and strengthen Franco-Indian research networks. Dr Choudhury’s selection is a testament to his expertise and the importance of his research in the field of seismology and geology.
This collaboration promises to contribute significantly to the understanding of earthquake-related phenomena and the development of strategies for mitigating their impact.
