NAGAON, Jan 31: The North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) and Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya (MSSV), Nagaon, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 28 to foster collaboration in space science and technology research and education.
The agreement was signed by Dr S P Aggarwal; director of NESAC and Sarat Hazarika; registrar of MSSV in presence of Prof Mridul Hazarika; vice chancellor of MSSV along with K K Sarmah; group head of RSAG, BK Handique; head PPEG, Bichitra Bikash; deputy registrar, Kamal K Tanti, head department of Physics of MSSV and all the head of the divisions of NESAC, Meghalaya.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mridul Hazarika, vice chancellor of MSSV stressed upon joint academic and research initiatives to benefit the academicians and researchers of both institutions and he announced that reputed scientists from NESAC will be honored as honorary professors of the University. S P Aggrawal, in his valuable speech, mentioned about the upcoming largest Drone Facility and Drone Pilot training centre at NESAC, which will benefit the youths of NE region. He also pointed out that joint capacity building courses will benefit the students and researchers of the region.
Further, as part of the MoU, MSSV will recognise NESAC as a Center of Excellence, solidifying the collaboration between the two institutions. The agreement also paves the way for joint research projects, leveraging the expertise of both NESAC and MSSV faculty and researchers.
This partnership also marks the beginning of two new joint programmes: M Sc. in Physics and Post Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS, to be taught by the scientists of NESAC along with faculty members of MSSV.
These programs aim to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to the growing field of space science and technology, scientific exploration in space & allied science will be integrated with various local aspects to leverage values in scientific pursuits.
Several state-of-the-art pieces of equipment will be installed at MSSV Nagaon as a result of this collaboration. A lightning detector has already been installed, enhancing the university’s capabilities in atmospheric studies. The installation of further advanced equipment will provide students and researchers with access to cutting-edge technology, facilitating high-quality research and education.
This partnership is expected to significantly boost space science education and research in the Northeastern region, providing students with valuable opportunities to contribute to the development of expertise in this crucial field.
