MSSV organises national seminar

GUWAHATI, Jan 5: Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya’s Department of Sankaradeva Studies successfully organised a national seminar on the theme of ‘Srimanta Sankaradeva in the Perspective of Social Transformation’ on Thursday. The event took place at the university’s Guwahati campus in collaboration with Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha, Nagaon, and Asam Sahitya Sabha.

Dr. Mridul Hazarika, vice chancellor of MSSV, inaugurated the seminar, and Dr Surya Kanta Hazarika, president of Asam Sahitya Sabha, delivered the keynote address. Dr Hazarika highlighted the importance of systematic study, investigation, research, and translation of the works of Mahapurusha Sankaradeva, noting that many of Srimanta Sankaradeva’s works are yet to be fully explored.

Chancellor Bhabendra Nath Deka, vice chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika, and registrar Dr Mrinal Kumar Bora of MSSV participated in the seminar, highlighting the university’s unique position as the sole institution for the study and research of Sankaradeva in India or Assam. Dr Upendrajit Sarama, secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha, pradhan sampadak of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha Kushal Thakuria, and former pradhan sampadak of SSS Babul Bora also contributed thoughtful lectures on various aspects of the changing social landscape.

The seminar featured 85 participants, including faculty, researchers, and students from different institutions. They presented seminar papers across six parallel technical seminar platforms, covering various fields of study related to the theme.

Additionally, Dr Priti Deka, faculty of the Department of Sankaradeva Studies at MSSV, released her book titled ‘Srimanta Sankaradeva as an Educationist’ during the seminar. Dr Niranjan Kalita, head of the Department of Sankaradeva Studies, MSSV, expressed gratitude to all attendees and announced plans for publishing a comprehensive book containing selected research papers from the seminar. He sought cooperation for future seminars of similar significance.
