New building of Adharchand Higher Secondary School inaugurated

GUWAHATI, Feb 2: The newly constructed building of Adharchand Higher Secondary School was formally inaugurated on Monday as part of a state-level initiative under which chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated 67 modern school buildings and laid foundation stones for 61 new schools across Assam.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu attended the programme digitally.

The local inauguration ceremony at Silchar was graced by Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Chakraborty said the new building would significantly strengthen the academic environment of the institution and contribute to its overall growth.

Describing the occasion as historic, he emphasised that education is the backbone of development and that no meaningful progress is possible without a strong education system.

Highlighting the state government’s focus on the sector, the MLA said education has been accorded top priority, with special emphasis on upgrading infrastructure in government schools.

He noted that government schools are undergoing visible transformation with improved sanitation and facilities, leading to increased public confidence.

He congratulated the teachers on the occasion and wished them continued success in their academic endeavours.

Chakraborty also acknowledged the role of engineer Saugata Shome in preparing the master plans for school buildings and said the education department itself has witnessed major reforms, with enhanced transparency and accountability.

He urged the school authorities to maintain the campus properly and advised students to keep the premises clean and stay connected with their alma mater even after completing their studies.

Lauding the leadership of the chief minister and the education minister, he said the government’s commitment to development is clearly reflected in the progress of the education sector.

Among those present were headmistress-in-charge Madhuri Barman, School Management Development Committee president Subhrangshu Shekhar Bhattacharjee, former principal Barnali Bhattacharjee, Jyotsnamoy Chakraborty, RSS Pranta Sangha Chalak Manjul Deb, former Silchar Development Authority chairman Chinmayi Podder, daughter of the land donor Dr Avijit Nath, Academic Registrar of Gurucharan University Dr Parthankar Choudhury, Cachar College principal Dr Apratim Nag, Pranabananda International School principal Dr Partha Pratim Adhikari and others.

Earlier, Madhuri Barman said the school had waited 85 years for the new building and expressed gratitude to the government for fulfilling a long-standing demand.

She informed that the institution was earlier known as Ambicapur ME School and that the land was donated by Adhir Chandra Roy, son of Adhar Chand.

The new building, constructed under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme, includes smart classrooms and modern academic facilities.

Former student Saikat Das rendered the inaugural song, while students of Pranabananda International School presented the inaugural dance. The vote of thanks was delivered by Subhrangshu Shekhar Bhattacharjee, and the programme was compered by Biplab Biswas.
