NFR initiative leads to over 100 stolen cell phone recoveries

Rightful owner overjoyed finding the lost

GUWAHATI, March 7: Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, general manager of Northeast Frontier Railway officially handed over 100 recovered mobile phones to the rightful owner and more cell phones to the owners in a special ceremony held on Friday at NFR Headquarters at Maligaon.

The recovered phones were traced and retrieved by the Cyber Cell of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) under Northeast Frontier Railway, using the advanced Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) Portal developed by the department of Telecommunications (DoT).

During the ceremony, general manager Shrivastava commended the Cyber Cell team for their tireless efforts, emphasising the importance of such initiatives in ensuring passenger trust and safety within the railway network. The ceremony highlighted the technological prowess and swift action demonstrated by the Cyber Cell/RPF/NFR, as well as Indian Railways’ commitment to passenger safety, technology adoption and service excellence. NFR holds the distinction of being the first zonal railway in India to gain access to the CEIR facility, further underlining its proactive approach in leveraging technology for passenger benefit.

The Cyber Cell of RPF/NFR has traced out 470 phones missing/stolen cell phones and 102 phones were recovered so far. Notably, 99 of the recovered phones have already been returned to their owners. So far, 21 criminals and receivers of stolen phones have been apprehended under this initiative. RPF of NFR is always committed and focussed on combining technology with proactive policy to enhance the overall travel experience for railway passengers.
