GUWAHATI, Nov 28: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the electrification of both pit lines at Kamakhya Junction, a key upgrade that enhances the station’s capacity to maintain and service upcoming Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains.

The modernised pit lines mark a major step toward readying the region for next-generation premium train operations.

Alongside electrification, eight new pedestals have been constructed to support Pantograph (Panto) and Roof Mounted Package Unit (RMPU) maintenance—functions essential for Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat train sets.

Officials said the installations will enable safer and faster periodic servicing of advanced rolling stock.

NFR has also completed comprehensive staff training to equip maintenance teams with the technical skills required for working on the electrified lines and specialised components.

The training included sessions on pit line safety, Panto and RMPU servicing, and modern maintenance protocols.

Railway officials said the upgrades align with Indian Railways’ broader vision of infrastructure modernisation and its Net-Zero mission for 2030.

With the improvements now in place, Kamakhya Junction is closer to hosting upgraded train services and delivering higher-quality, energy-efficient rail travel to passengers in the Northeast.
